I'm a homebody who was bit by the travel bug. My travels give me embarrassing and strange stories to write about, and inspiring images to paint. Luckily, I have a knack for getting lost and stranded in bizarre situations and have a digital camera that can survive a swim in the sea. But most importantly, I have parents, friends and professors who push and encourage me to do what I do best-live big and stay away from math.
Not so long ago:
I spent my childhood happy and in make-believe worlds. My dad was the one who taught me to draw, then paint. My mom was the one who used vocabulary above my age and corrected my elocution. It was my God-fearing, sophisticated Aunt who taught me to curse.
After trying medicine for a while, I realized that I wouldn't do too well on the MCAT without knowing my multiplication tables so I opted for English and Art instead, but only because spell check had been invented. So I traded the equations, labs and hives for a writers bump and a de-sensitivity to the smell of turpentine.
My life since 16 has been a series of plane tickets. Starting when I chose two weeks in Europe over a new car. Since then it's been a whirlwind of Hungarian bathhouses, Swiss glaciers, Sicilian caves, London pints, Jamaican police, Spanish gangs, Thai hospitals, Korean nightclubs, Cambodian landmines and a lot of Italian wine.
Today:
I'm still drinking the wine, but now in the comfort of a house that's actually mine, and quickly becoming overrun with cat hair. I'm living and working in Durham, NC. My paychecks come from Ogilvy Advertising, an agency with offices all over the world, namely Sydney, Australia (hint hint). I'm slowly climbing the 'man's ladder' by educating myself in graphic design and illustration with the hopes of working with Ogilvy outside of North Carolina. But in the meantime I'm here, and loving life, and still managing to stay away from math.
This website is a dream come true for me. A place to see that my passions are more than just hobbies. Thanks for coming here. I hope you enjoy the site. My hope is that you are inspired to leave your safe, comfy, faded chair and take the path that leads to different languages, cheap market food and experiences that will most certainly change your life.
